Male factor infertility contributes to approximately 40–50% of all infertility cases. Yet it remains under-discussed. Understanding the causes and available treatments is the first step toward a solution.
Common Causes
Low sperm count (oligospermia), poor sperm motility, abnormal sperm morphology, blocked ducts, hormonal imbalances, varicocele, and genetic conditions are the most common causes of male infertility.
Diagnosis
A semen analysis is the primary diagnostic test. It assesses sperm count, motility, morphology, and volume. Additional tests may include hormonal blood tests, genetic screening, and testicular ultrasound.
Treatment Options
Depending on the cause, treatment ranges from lifestyle changes and medications to surgical procedures (PESA, TESE, Micro-TESE) and assisted reproduction techniques like ICSI. ICSI, where a single healthy sperm is injected directly into an egg, is highly effective even with very low sperm counts.
Male infertility is treatable in most cases. Do not delay seeking help — early diagnosis and treatment significantly improve outcomes.
